Our Story

Born in, 1926, in Regelsweiler, Germany, Frederick Wisch began his journey to becoming a Master Butcher. Drafted into the German Airforce, he was wounded and captured by the French at the Battle of the Bulge. After World War II, Fred decided to make his way to the United States and in 1947, he joined his mother in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Fred found employment at Hildebrandt Sausage Co in Cleveland, was drafted into the United States Marine Corps and is a Korean War Veteran. Returning home to Ohio, Fred was hired as Meat Manager for Foodtown Grocery Store at Mayland shopping Center, which was later purchased by Catalano’s Stop-n-Shop. His daughter, Barb at age 10, began working alongside her dad at Foodtown and then Catalano’s learning the meat business at an early age. In 1977, father and daughter opened Wisch’s Old World Butcher Shop in Bainbridge, Ohio. Barb’s best friend, Patty, also worked at Wisch’s. Barb and Patty decided to venture out on their own and in 1980 opened Barb & Patty’s Butcher Palace in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, and then later opening a 2 nd store in Mentor Oh., growing into one of the most well-known and voted the Best Butcher shop in Northeast Oh.

After 45 years of family traditions Barb and Patty still believe a quality product and great customer service are the two main ingredients for a satisfied customer.
